Lead MTS Firmware Engineering

Rambus, a premier chip and silicon IP provider, is seeking to hire an exceptional Lead MTS Firmware Engineer to join our Connectivity Business Unit team in India.  The candidate will join some of the brightest inventors and engineers in the world to develop products that make data faster and safer.

 

The candidate needs to be deeply hands-on and capable of self-guidance and technical leadership.  The ideal individual will possess prior experience with electronics hardware – especially memory, and CPU interface integration IP within System-On-Chips (SoC). The candidate needs to have solid experience with firmware and hardware bring-up, testing, and troubleshooting.  The candidate should have prior experience with developing and debugging multi-threaded C firmware for execution on SoC emulation platforms and production silicon.  The candidate should also have experience with firmware verification and test automation.

 

The candidate will be expected to interact extensively in a tight team environment with employees in other disciplines and geographies.  The candidate will work closely with local and North American firmware engineers, as well as hardware designers, silicon verification and validation engineers.

The candidate will be responsible for growing, mentoring, and nurturing the firmware team in Bangalore.  The candidate will report directly into the Senior Director of Engineering at the Rambus Bangalore Design Center, and will take technical direction from the Director of Firmware Engineering and Architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Develop device drivers and diagnostic firmware in C that executes on pre-silicon emulation platforms and production silicon.
  • Develop, support, and maintain beta and production firmware releases.
  • Develop C firmware and test infrastructure for product compliance testing.
  • Develop, execute, and maintain the firmware verification test plan.
  • Develop, and maintain the firmware team’s Continuous Integration environment.
  • Develop and maintain the firmware Test Automation environment.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and firmware by working closely with IP designers, hardware designers, verification engineers, and validation engineers.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to coding convention and best practices.
  • Provide training, mentorship and coaching to less experienced firmware engineers.

Qualifications

  • BS or higher degrees preferred (Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering).
  • Minimum 7 years experience in developing and debugging embedded software preferred
  • Strong C/C++ design and programming skills.
  • Experience developing device drivers and low-level code for hardware peripherals such as timers, UART, GPIO, and DMA.
  • Experience with real time OS (RTOS) techniques including preemptive multi-tasking schedulers, multi-threaded execution, semaphores, mutexes, and interrupts.
  • Experience with memory RAS (Reliability, Availability and Serviceability) features, including error detection and correction.
  • Experience with embedded security features, such as hardware root of trust, secure boot, and key authentication.
  • Ability to follow guidance from more senior members of the team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in small teams.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience writing software for embedded ARM or RISCv platforms, System-On-Chip (SoC), or x86 platforms.
  • Experience with PCIe, CXL, NVMe, I3C, or QSPI.
  • Hardware bring-up experience using JTAG debug tools.
  • Experience with PCB and full system debug.
  • Experience working in lean development organizations and/or startups.
